How NACCAS Helps Pave the Best Path for Beauty School Hopefuls

What Exactly Is NACCAS?

NACCAS is an impartial nongovernmental agency that determines educational standards for cosmetology schools. Accreditation of schools remains the most authoritative and reliable index as it relates to how institutions treat their students and faculty. Not only that, but NACCAS recognizes curricula that exceed expectations and offer a quality learning experience.

NACCAS is nationally recognized officially by the U.S. Department of Education. Regarding NACCAS, schools are required to undergo an extensive process. This process includes becoming licensed, submitting an application for relevant candidate status, attending institutional workshops, undergoing visits from NACCAS, and submitting all of the required paperwork to NACCAS. As a result, if the school meets its curricula and facilities’ guidelines, it’s granted accredited status.

NACCAS only looks at schools to see if they conform to a set of minimum common standards. That said, just because some beauty schools are accredited doesn’t mean that all of them are going to provide the same educational quality. Accreditation simply means that the institution meets common standards, which is a great way to differentiate schools that offer some sort of educational quality from non-accredited schools that do not.

How Does the Accreditation Process Work?

Schools become accredited by the formal action of NACCAS. The Commission bases its formal action on information submitted by the school and the reports of a NACCAS-appointed inspection team that has visited the school and evaluated it according to established standards.

It should be noted that accreditation does not imply that all schools are the same. It simply means that accredited schools conform to a set of common standards established by the Commission. These standards are in place to demonstrate a wide range of acceptability. Because no attempt is made by the Commission to determine relative excellence among accredited schools, accredited schools are listed alphabetically by state.

Schools are re-evaluated at a minimum by NACCAS once every six years. The continuation of accreditation depends on the schools’ ability to maintain the established standards. If a school fails to maintain standard requirements, a set period is allowed for the school to correct its deficiencies. Accreditation is withdrawn if these deficiencies are not remedied during this interval.

What Impact Does NACCAS Accreditation Have on Schools?

The benefit of attending an accredited school is that you may qualify for financial aid to attend beauty school. Accreditation means that a school’s students can receive Stafford Loans, Pell Grants and more. Not only that, but attending a NACCAS accredited school is very intriguing to employers as you enter your desired field in cosmetology. Employers in the field often feel as though alumni of these institutions have attended more reputable beauty schools, and as a result, would make better employees.

One of the most important aspects of attending an accredited school is the impact it has on your perspective and therefore your experience in both studying and working in your chosen career field. There are so many standards an accredited beauty school must meet. This means you can be confident about the education you are getting because these standards are put in place to benefit all students. This is something that Evergreen Beauty College takes pride in. Not only do we believe in assuring the success of every student as they begin their career, but we also believe in maintaining a fun, immersive, family-style school culture at Evergreen Beauty College.

Drawbacks of Non-Accredited Schools

The drawback of attending a non-accredited school is best described as the distinction between investing in the most beautiful Louis Vuitton shoes for your wedding or just deciding to wear Crocs. An accredited school is guaranteed to meet standard requirements necessary for providing students with an adequate education and sufficient knowledge in their field. Attending a non-accredited school is more like a roll of the dice in that it may not provide you with all of the tools you need be it financial aid, relevant knowledge or course continuation after graduation at an accredited school.
