From today we can go out and about and live our best lives. After spending months cooped up indoors we are finally free to go shopping, meet up with friends in restaurants and bars and go to the cinema or theatre.
What better way to celebrate this than to get all glammed up with some fabulous makeup finished off with a colourful lip? Since skincare and haircare was the focus during Lockdown, this means that makeup will be a major player for the rest of the year – mask or no mask.
MUA, Dayna Kellman tells us about the lip colours people will be wearing now and in the Summer.
In the Summer, we can go extremely bold or for a subtle nude tone. I love a pop of pink to compliment all of our upcoming cocktails, or for the summer nights to come a subtle red will be perfect too.
The shades that are flattering on darker skin tones are a perfect pale pink by Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Shade Mink. If it’s too soft for you, pair it with a soft brown liner – Morphe in Bite Me or MAC – Spice liners are perfect. My perfect nude currently is Get Lippy from Doll Beauty. This is the perfect nude.
Matte’s are going to be having the official comeback, companies are already launching the new shades to compliment our new masked life.
You could say they are the way forward, however, we are over the drying sensation. My perfect matte lips are from Maybelline – they are super comfortable and long lasting. MAC Matte lipsticks will forever be staples in my kits.
The other lip products I recommend are NYX Cosmetics Loud High Shine Pigments, they are perfect and come with a gloss that doesn’t leave a sticky feeling.
Here are some of our favourite lipsticks to get that hot girl Summer look.
Created with a proud mid 90s glamour, this semi-matte lipstick is a high concentration of colour used with key beneficial ingredients that stops your lips from drying out.
This is a playful pink that flatters dark skin tones. It is a weightless, long-wear liquid lipstick with a soft matte finish.
If you are after a perfect red that suits your skin tone down to pat then Emolyne is perfect for that. The texture is a velvety, semi-matte, highly pigmented and long-lasting. You can also treat yourself to a matching lip liner and lip polish as well.
This liquid lipstick offers a shade of orange for a fresh look. It is made with a more oil rich formula and leaves a muted radiant finish.
Colourblend Deluxe Xtreme in Marilyn
This Black-owned brand creates lipsticks that are extremely pigmented with maximum staying power. The texture is creamy texture with a matte finish.
The comfort-matte lipstick is a lovely burnt red that adds a pop of colour to your face. It’s a great product to wear under your mask because it really doesn’t transfer and stays firmly put. You can pick up this shade in June.
