Sexy Hair Spray & Play Volumizing Hairspray Adds Body to Hair — Review

Here’s an embarrassing story: Awhile back, group of friends came to my place for to prep for a night out. Like the gracious hostess-slash-beauty editor that I am, I laid out piles of palettes, a frankly shocking number of lipsticks, rows of hot tools, and my litany of hair-styling products. I had texturizing spray, dry shampoo, sea salt spray, mousse, and a scalp mask for good measure. But the one thing a friend asked for — and that I didn’t even have in the house — was hairspray.

Hairspray! How could I have gone so long without the hair product? Somewhere along the way, this basic necessity got dropped from my routine. Thanks to Sexy Hair’s Big Sexy Hairspray and Play Volumizing version, I’m delighted to inform you that hairspray is right back where it belongs in my beauty supplies.

My hair is naturally wavy, and I use this spray to lock-in that texture and add height. On the Sexy Hair hold spectrum, Spray & Play falls just beyond the middle, which means it provides a medium-hold. I found the hold strong enough everyday use with my fine, frizzy hair, but if it’s, say, your wedding day or you’re an Olympic gymnast, I recommend going up to more serious holds like Spray & Play Harder or Spritz & Stay.

In the past, I’ve thought of hairspray as a “special-events-only” type of product. But Allure readers and the Allure Readers’ Choice Awards have never steered me wrong. After a few days with Spray & Play, I was spritzing my style with the hairspray each morning. Even (and especially) on unwashed hair with a few days of oil and product build-up, it brought the drama with some much-needed volume. Since it’s a medium-hold mist, it never felt heavy or crunchy. And now, next time a friend asks, I’ll have a can at the ready.
